ABOUT US

Meet the people behind Zoltan Engineering

Zoltan Engineering Inc. located in Burlington, Ontario, was founded in 2002 by Zoltan Lakatos. With a wealth of experience in structural design and project management, Zoltan was well equipped to begin his practice. Zoltan's first projects included steel connection design, industrial applications, and industrial and agricultural building design. Throughout the years, the company has expanded in size and work volume, and has gained project experience and capabilities.

ZOLTAN LAKATOS P. Eng

Principle and Owner

Zoltan began his career at the Technical University of Budapest, Hungary where he earned a Diploma in Civil Engineering with a major in Structural Studies. After coming to Canada, he took several supplementary courses at the University of Toronto. Zoltan has held a license as a Professional Engineer since 1992.

Throughout his career, Zoltan has been involved in the structural design process in varying capacities including design, drafting, and project coordination. His experience in steel design, building structural design, and industrial structures gave him the expertise to open his own practice in 2002, under the name of Zoltan Engineering.

Currently, his work includes: business development, client relations, structural design, quality control, field review, and project supervision.

 

Zoltan's interests include cycling, travelling, skiing, and scuba-diving.

NICOLE ALLENDER P. Eng, P.E.

Senior Structural Engineer

Nicole received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from University of California San Luis Obispo and a Master of Engineering Studies degree in Civil Engineering from University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. She worked and became licensed as a Structural Engineer in the state of Arizona before moving to Canada in 2013.

Nicole joined Zoltan Engineering at the beginning of 2016, bringing with her over 12 years of experience in structural engineering ranging from small to very large-scale projects in industrial, institutional, commercial, and residential applications.

Nicole’s interests include spending time with family, being outdoors, and traveling.

CRISTIAN ARIAS B. Eng

Structural Designer

Cristian Studied at McMaster University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in June 2016. His focus throughout his program was structural design but he is also knowledgeable in fields such as construction management, pavement design, and water resource systems. Cristian was involved in several extra-curricular activities throughout his time at McMaster University including being an active member of the McMaster Engineering Society.

 

Cristian joined Zoltan Engineering in the summer of 2016 and his work at Zoltan Engineering includes structural design, project management, and drafting.

 

Cristian’s interests comprises of soccer, skateboarding, and playing video games.

GERRIT
VANDER MEULEN

P. Eng

Structural Engineer

Gerrit studied at McMaster University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering in April 2019. His focus throughout his program was structural design but he is also knowledgeable in fields such as construction management and water resource systems. During his degree Gerrit also completed co-op work terms in transportation engineering and structural steel estimating.

 

Gerrit joined Zoltan Engineering in the spring of 2019 and his work at Zoltan Engineering includes structural design, code & bylaw review, and project management.

 

Gerrit's interests consists of soccer,  personal finance, and spending time with family and friends.

EDDIE PARTITO

Lead Designer/CAD Manager

Eddie completed his education at Mohawk College in Hamilton. He has earned two diplomas, the first being Buildings Renovations Technician and the second being Architectural Technician. Eddie was significantly involved in the Mohawk Students Association during his time there.

 

Following after his father, Eddie began his career as a draftsman after graduation with Zoltan Engineering in 2013. His work currently consists of drawing management & review, drafting, field measuring, and document preparation.

 

Eddie’s interests include gaming, cars mechanics and tuning, and enjoys cooking new meals

THOMAS LUKACS

Project Manager

Tom completed his education at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, graduating with a bachelor's in Science for Architectural Engineering as well as receiving a Masters in Architecture and Architectural Engineering. Tom started working at Zoltan Engineering in 2020, being the newest edition to the team.

 

Tom’s work includes invoicing. project oversight and scheduling, document preparation.

 

Tom’s interests include spending time with his family, being in nature, and finance & business dedicating part of his time to his own company.

TARA VEURINK

Senior Designer

Tara completed her education at Sheridan College in 2007, graduating with a diploma in interior design. Tara worked with a residential design firm for one year after graduation, and joined Zoltan Engineering in 2008, being one of the first members of the team.

 

Tara’s work includes drafting, drawing management & review, residential design, and document preparation.

 

Tara’s interests include spending time with her family and crafting. Working remotely, she is able to do both more often.

OUR APPROACH

Provide cost-effective design solutions to meet the wants and needs of our clients. This allows clients to develop smooth & effective projects, and owners to increase plant and site capabilities. Our engineering process utilizes first-principle design and analysis along with the Ontario Building Code and the appropriate technical standards to create simple, effective, and safe designs. 

Software packages aiding in the design and production process include: STAAD-Pro for analysis, MASS for masonry design, AutoCAD 2021 for drawing preparation, and SavoyCAD for site vehicle tracking.
